Unexpected Morning Drama: Suspected thief apprehended on my street

A suspected thief was apprehended on my street this morning.

I was doing my routine workout when I started hearing unusual sounds outside. Unusual because it sounded like someone being beaten. Then I heard a man narrating how his shop was broken into, and he was saying the apprehended suspect deserves the beating he was getting.

“Na so children wey no dey work anything dey shine pass adults wey dey suffer,” he said bitterly.

“I dey see this boy dey waka up and down this street every time and him no dey carry any bag to show say him dey go work or hustle,” he continued.

He talked about how the neighbouring community had banished him, probably for similar offences, and this community where he stays now didn’t prevent him from living there.

“I been talk am say how we sure say him no go repeat the same thing here?”

Then I started hearing other voices. Apparently, people were gathering. I could hear the young man’s voice again, crying and begging. I noticed a car had parked by our fence, so, I ran out to the gate to catch a glimpse of the suspect and who had apprehended him.

It was an oxblood minivan with the inscriptions ‘SANITY’ and ‘OSPAC’ on it. Some of the cane bearing officers had cuffed the young man and were putting him in the vehicle. He obviously had received some beatings because part of his face was swollen and red.

They drove past our gate and because the door was opened, I saw two big generators on the seats (probably exhibit), while the young man lay on the floor behind the front seats.

They went ahead, did a turn, and headed out of the street. I heard the voice of one of the people gathered saying:

“God bless una o,” she said in appreciation of the security outfit for trying to ‘sanitise’ the area.

Another person added: “If na Ab* now, dem for burn am tyre.”
