Threat from Orashi Assembly to Relocate to Rivers State Government House Suffers Setback

Image
Attempts of Orashi Assembly to effect threat of mobilizing Orashi people to relocate to government house, Rivers State, suffered a setback. This is as officers of the Nigerian Police halted their march yesterday, just at the UTC junction of Aba Road.  The protesters had converged on Isaac Boro Park and had set off when they were stopped by armed police personnel stationed at UTC. They were carrying placards with inscriptions like ‘Rivers State Government attend to us on this flood issue’, ‘Save us, Governor Wike’, ‘No food, no house, no care by Rivers State Government’ and ‘Stop this marginalization’.  Alas, the ‘caravan’ was prevented from going any further, so the troop of protesters could not get to government house as they planned to. Leader of the group, Abbah Rufus, expressed his grievance over the situation, lamenting the way they were treated. Flood Victims from Orashi March to Government House, Rivers State

Some flood victims from the local government areas that make up the Orashi region of Rivers State are marching down to Rivers State government house, following what they describe as government's insensitivity to their plight.   A Socio-political group, Orashi Assembly, had threatened last week, to mobilize those affected by the natural disaster to government house.  Leader of the group, Abbah Rufus, revealed that the group intends to take this line of action because it has exhausted all ways of persuading the state government to visit or set up adequate camps for displaced persons. He claimed that the state government has not shown enough sympathy to people of the region, where his wife, Suzette Wike coincidentally hails from. He also made comparisons with the attention given to traders whose shops were recently razed down in a fire accident at Fruit Garden Market in D-line.  Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike, on Saturday compensated traders of the...

Happy World Post Day 2018

Image
I just saw a postman here in the office. I saw his NIPOST bag and knew he had to be from there. He looked kinda elderly and you should have seen how his face literally lit up when I told him "HAPPY NIPOST DAY!" He was somewhat surprised that I cared you know. I asked what was being done to celebrate the day and he said a lot, adding that I should even be there. I threw a question about how people think nothing is happening with NIPOST anymore and how long they've been in existence. Still smiling and all, he noted that people really don't know that operations are still 'okay'. "Innovation, Integration and Inclusion" is the theme for this year's World Post Day. Here in Nigeria, those who shop regularly online, especially foreign shops use NIPOST. So in terms of E-commerce, they are being quite innovative by incorporating such in their operations. Yes, we don't write letters anymore, thanks to Soci...

Notorious Lout Marries Police Officer in Port Harcourt

Image
I promised to share an interesting and somewhat weird love story I got wind of on my way from church with you right? Okay, here we go. So, there happens to be a notorious 'lout' terrorizing drivers at Rumuola. How do I know? Well, here's the story.  My taxi had loaded and was ready to head to Choba from Rumuola, but there was a Toyota Camry parked right in front of us, blocking the way. The owner of the car, happened to be the notorious 'lout', who knew we were ready to move but was proving stubborn. He had a pretty rough face which at first glance appeared to be scars left by chicken pox. But on closer look and careful scrutiny, it didn't quite seem like what I presumed because it was all over his face and somehow came off as a sort of disguise. I looked at his hand to get some kind of confirmation that it wasn't a deliberate disguise and saw same scars behind his palm. He had a long sleeved shirt on and I couldn't see any other part of his bo...
