Mother of One Found Dead in Rumuosi Apartment after Fire Guts Her Room

A woman who hails from Delta State has reportedly died from a fire outbreak that occurred in Rumuosi community, Rivers State.

Reports have it that the fire started from a candle flame which ignited her room. Some neighbours said they noticed heavy smoke from her one-bedroom apartment around 1am and made efforts to assist in putting out the fire. Unfortunately, she was found dead after they had succeeded in quenching the fire. Neighbours said the woman who is married to an Ikwerre man returned from her home state - Delta- yesterday, without her daughter, whom they say may have stayed back since schools are on holiday. 

Her husband was said to have been away for a church vigil when the incident occurred and has since been invited by the Police for questioning.

I had a conversation with a senior colleague bothering on journalism and trauma.  He asked one striking question: "Are journalists getting soft?" In the course of our conversation, he talked about how this era or generation of journalists enjoy certain privileges that older journalists didn't enjoy and how things are more or less served on a platter of gold in terms of working conditions for younger ones. He also said journalism is a profession we signed up for and have to face the realities that come with the job.
